It was summer break, and my best friend Rena had come all the way from California to Texas-in the middle of a drought. It was beginning to get dark outside, so we hurried in my house and sat down to eat a delicious dinner. Soon after, we brushed our teeth and went to bed. We really didn’t want to sleep, because we wanted to talk. We talked on and on about whatever we wanted to talk about in the world. We were just getting sleepy when we heard a startling noise outside.
Rena asked, or rather shouted, “WHAT IS THAT NOISE?!”
I replied casually, “Nothing. Just a little dust storm. “I was wrong. The “little” dust storm was rattling the windows, and dust was filling the room!
“Hurry!” we cried in unison, as we ran to the basement. The storm was picking up!
We entered the dark basement cautiously, and sat down under the pool table. We could still hear the obnoxious storm bullying the innocent people of Texas. Then, the trapdoor creaked open slowly. Rena freaked out and screamed. What a relief! My parents and brother appeared in the door way. My brother tried to turn on the lights, but the electricity had been cut by the dust storm. All 5 of us felt our way to a closet that held extra blankets. Each one of us spread a blanket on the ground, and soon we all fell asleep.
